November 1st is International Self Portrait Day. I’ve been looking forward to it for months as it’s been quite a few years since I did a self-portrait!
As a big fan of the TV series “Portrait Artist of the Year”, I set myself two conditions – work from life (i.e. a mirror) and take no longer than four hours (in the end I spent about three and a half).
I used a limited palette, in this case of Titanium White, Cadmium Orange, Sap Green and Dioxazine Purple. I thought they’d be interesting colours to work with, and they were!
Here’s the end result; acrylics on an 11×14″ wood panel (the painted area is about 9×12″).
