As I’ve been dealing with a lot of fatigue issues lately, I haven’t been making much physical art. When Youtube recently recommended a video to me about making “simple” landscapes in Photoshop, I decided to try it out.
Normally I see digital art as the “dark side” (I’ve always preferred to make a physical piece of art I can give or sell to someone) but going through this tutorial and beyond, I might just be tempted to start making more digital art in the future.
You can find the tutorial here if you want to try it yourself, and if you do, I’d love to see your results. You don’t necessarily need Photoshop – I use the excellent free clone Pixelmator and it does everything needed (some shortcut keys are different). I don’t have a graphics tablet, so I just used my trackpad. It didn’t slow me down.
Below are my results. I did the orange one first, and produced the other two at the end, just like in the tutorial. You’ll see that I went a few steps further in some places, because – gasp! – I was actually having a lot of fun!
